I was watching the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony the other night. It was nice to see Donovan get inducted and perform. His song “Sunshine Superman” always struck me as odd because of the lyric Superman or Green Lantern ain’t got a-nothin’ on me. It was not surprising to see Superman referenced, because by 19666 when the song was released he was as iconic as any character in any medium, but Green Lantern still seemed rather obscure.
There were several other inductees from the 1950’s and 60’s, but I really aged quickly when The Beastie Boys, Guns and Roses and Red Hot Chili Peppers were all inducted. These are current bands,right? They only started making music a few years…uh, geez I just checked, it’s been over 25 years. Damn, I’m old.
I guess Justin Bieber should be inducted any day now.
